This project explores the historic context of boating on the Brayford Pool, which begun during the Roman Military Period in AD43. I also explore the visual traditions of boat decoration which may have manifested on the Pool’s waters, up until the end of WW11. The study also looks at the period of post war pleasure boating on the Brayford with a view to mapping past, recent past, and current visual manifestations amongst the Pool’s boating community, includes my own signwriting.
